Jennifer Capps Leans Into Leadership
Capps is increasing her leadership responsibilities by serving as a board member for the United States Association for Small Business & Entrepreneurship (USASBE).
The newly announced USASBE Board of Directors now includes NC State Innovation and Entrepreneurship professor Jennifer Capps. Capps joins the board as secretary, where she will support the growth and inclusivity of the USASBE community and collaborate with other board members to advance entrepreneurship through bold teaching, scholarship and practice. USASBE members are teachers, scholars and program directors who not only identify best practices in entrepreneurship education, but also try new trends and share their experience within the organization.
USASBE has offered me numerous opportunities to grow as a leader and as an educator. Not only have I benefited from the resources, programs and opportunities, most importantly, I found my strongest peer support network among the USASBE nation. These are people that I can call on for advice, lean on when things are tough and learn with all the time. I am honored to be serving the members of USASBE as a board member.
Capps is the Assistant Vice Provost of NC State Innovation and Entrepreneurship. During her career, she has built numerous campus-wide and interdisciplinary entrepreneurship programs within curricular and co-curricular spaces. From agribusiness to arts, Capps has supported curriculum development that allows anyone at NC State to be an entrepreneur. She is known for her program leadership, experiential education expertise, student and faculty mentoring and ability to navigate institutions. She has presented her work throughout the United States as well as internationally in Russia, Denmark, Argentina, Japan, Saudi Arabia and others. Her interdisciplinary general education course is taken by 400 students each year and is modeled by universities across the U.S. and in other countries.
Steve Markham, Director of Innovation and Entrepreneurship at NC State, said that Capps’ appointment will “raise the visibility” of NC State programs nationally as well as increase opportunities for collaboration on entrepreneurship education between NC State and other universities.
Capps has formed vibrant partnerships between Innovation and Entrepreneurship and organizations at NC State and in the Triangle. As a newly-appointed USASBE board member, she will continue to make meaningful connections and develop new relationships with leaders in entrepreneurship education across the country.
