Katie Lawson

Industrial Engineering, Junior

Bio

Katie is a junior at NC State studying Industrial Engineering in the College of Engineering with a Human Systems concentration and a Cognitive Sciences minor.

Katie’s goal is to advance neurological research and technology applications while working with medical start-ups and continuing her education at NC State.

Her academic interests lie in optimizing neurological rehabilitation and neuroplasticity through brain-computer interfaces, stimulus devices, and treatments. For the past year, has done undergraduate research on neural synchrony, and she is excited to continue researching the brain. Research has improved her problem-solving skills and technical writing – both skills required in a technology startup.

Besides undergraduate research, she is heavily involved in NC State’s Entrepreneurship. This is her second year as an Entrepreneurship Ambassador and as an entrepreneurship merit-based scholarship recipient. She is honored to be an Entrepreneurship Scholar and to work with a hardworking and talented group of students and mentors. Last year as an ambassador she helped plan pitch contests and increased student involvement through marketing and organizing entrepreneurship events on campus. This year, as an ambassador, she is excited to start new on-campus initiatives to grow student involvement, entrepreneurship programs, and NC State college- entrepreneurship partnerships.

Katie loves spending time outside hiking and exploring, playing both indoor and sand volleyball, and learning to cook gourmet dinners!
