This Valentine’s Day, Love Locally!

It’s Valentine’s Day and love is in the air! Thanks to small businesses, there are a wide variety of ways to celebrate and show your special someone how much they mean to you. It’s important for entrepreneurs to take a step back every now and then and appreciate their loved ones so that their ventures don’t cause them to lose focus of the little things in life. If you’re spending this Valentine’s Day with someone you love, why don’t you show our local businesses some love too?

One of the benefits of celebrating your Valentine’s Day with local business is that you will get a unique experience that you would not get with a chain. Lucky for you, the Triangle has a plethora of local businesses and startups that you can support! Here’s a list that we put together for you.

LaFarm Bakery has a Valentine’s Day Dinner for Two. LaFarm is a french bakery in Cary owned by Lionel Vatinet and his wife Missy. Lionel is a Master Baker, and La Farm is full of delicious bread, baked goods and sweet treats. They’re committed to supporting local wheat growers and have been a staple in Cary since 1999. LaFarm has an intimate vibe that makes it a perfect date night for Valentine’s! – Megan

My top restaurant for date night is Mandolin The dining room is light-filled and absolutely beautiful, and the attention to detail from the culinary team is difficult to beat in the Triangle. Sean Fowler’s restaurant, described as elevated modern American cuisine, will create a picture perfect date night that you’ll rave to your friends about. Trust me on the grilled hanger steak for pan-seared duck breast for dinner, and arrive early for cocktails the bar. This is a neighborhood favorite and a great destination for a special night out. – Haley

I love the Art Museum in Raleigh. If you and your boo are art appreciating folks, this is the place to be. On Valentine’s Day, they are offering a free tour of their permanent collection. There’s something very romantic about the dimmed lights and calm atmosphere that will make it the perfect environment for an upscale, elegant date. If you’re looking for something a bit more pricey, they also have a date night complete with a five-course dinner, romantic music, champagne, and a guided tour. – Tanvi

My ideal Valentines date would be getting takeout from Neomonde’s and then coming back home and watching movies.  Neomonde’s is an amazing Mediterranean restaurant with a casual setting off of Hillsborough Street. It’s great for eating in or taking out! I love going there with my boyfriend and each getting different plates to split. They have pita sandwiches, oven topped pies, hummus, shawarma and a long bar of different sides to create an amazing platter. They also have a Mediterranean market where you can buy treats and other foods to bring home. It’s perfect for an adventurous, low key valentines date where you can try new things and bring it back to the comfort of your dorm or apartment, especially on a cold February night. – Kiersten

Benelux Coffee in Cameron Village provides an extensive coffee bar with a variety of beans, flavors, and drinks. While that may seem like more than enough, the real kicker is their food: Belgian waffles. Made fresh right before your very eyes and with toppings from maple syrup to vanilla ice cream to Biscoff cookie butter (my favorite), Benelux Coffee is a phenomenal way to spend Valentine’s Day morning! – Gus

Gifts:

Top Valentine’s Day confection: Escazu chocolate for your loved one with a serious sweet tooth. And, hey, artisan chocolates say “I love you!” far better than a Walgreen’s red heart. Other notable picks are Videri for their amazing digs, and Azurelise Chocolate Truffles for a sweet startup! – Haley

Sometimes, it’s as simple as walking to Talley Market and picking up some Howling Cow Ice Cream. While it’s more on the simple side, it’s sweet and from the heart. – Jenn

The Sugarland Bakery has locations in Raleigh and Chapel Hill makes sweet treats that would be perfect for your sweetie! – O’licia
