Started at State – An Entrepreneurial Speaker Series

This entrepreneurial speaker series features both current NC State students and alumni business founders. Come learn from fascinating tales from the trailblazers who Started at State as they share the secrets and setbacks encountered on their journey to entrepreneurial success.

This event is great for anyone looking to learn more about unconventional career paths in entrepreneurship, student entrepreneurs, and all those curious to see what it takes to start a business from scratch.

Please RSVP below to attend. We will be giving out free individually wrapped cookies from another State Alum,  the Cookie People, to attendees while supplies last! This event is in-person, at the NC State Entrepreneurship Garage at Partners I. 1017 Main Campus Dr. Suite 1650.

This evening’s speaker is Greg Hatem! Greg will be talking about the tools and traits needed for the journey of a photojournalist with a degree in Chemical Biomolecular Engineering to the founder of dozens of companies as diverse as development and hospitality.

North Carolina native Greg Hatem is the founder and CEO of Empire Properties, which has worked tirelessly to improve downtown Raleigh for 25 years through adaptive reuse of historic structures. The real estate development company owns more than 70 buildings with more than 1 million square feet of office and retail space in downtown Raleigh and Durham.

Empire Eats, the company’s restaurant division, has turned downtown Raleigh into one of North Carolina’s culinary centers with The Raleigh Times Bar, The Morning Times, The Pit Authentic Barbecue, with locations in Raleigh and Durham, Sitti, Gravy, The Pizza Times, the Mecca and Square Burger. A native of Roanoke Rapids, N.C., Greg has a bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering from N.C. State University and a diploma in Chinese studies from Beijing Youth Politics College.
